Sonia Montalvo joined the team of Immigrants First in February 2021 as a Legal Assistant.

Sonia emigrated from Bolivia in 1983 with her husband and four-year old daughter and began working in the immigration field in the fall of 1999. Her experience includes: preparation of court cases for Asylum and Cancellation of Removal, processing of reduction of recruitment for Labor Certification before the Department of Labor, processing of Family Petitions, and Legal Permanent Residence with the immigration service.

Sonia has served as an interpreter for psychological evaluations filed before the Immigration Court and the immigration service since 2014.

Both Sonia's personal and professional experience give her tremendous compassion for the diverse challenges individuals and their families face: fear, language barriers, employment opportunities, access to housing, transportation, cultural differences, and especially raising children.
Sonia is fluent in Spanish.
